As a **Staff Software Engineer**, you’ll provide technical leadership across multiple agile teams/projects to deliver prioritized software product roadmaps. **What You’ll Do** - Write high-quality code for complex scenarios with strong test coverage. - Translate product requirements into robust, modular, configurable designs for distributed applications. - Lead design and code reviews across multiple applications, ensuring best practices and Mercury standards. - Lead sprint teams within the same product area to deliver backlog items and improve features. - Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of intended functionality. - Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers across multiple teams. - Partner with product managers to estimate effort, prioritize work, plan, and deliver roadmap items. **Qualifications** - **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field (or equivalent experience). Master’s preferred. - **Experience:** - 7+ years software engineering experience - 3+ years leading multi-team engineering initiatives in distributed application environments - 7+ years experience with **Guidewire (PolicyCenter)** (preferred) - 5+ years **Java, Spring Boot, and microservices** - 3+ years **system design** - 2+ years **AWS or related cloud technologies** **Skills & Technologies** - Proficient in one or more languages (e.g., **Java, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript**) - Data structures, algorithms, and design patterns - Relational DBs, NoSQL, and caching - API development (e.g., **REST, gRPC**) - Message queuing/data streaming/workflow/integration frameworks (e.g., **Apache Kafka, NiFi, Amazon SQS, MS MQ, Apache Camel**) - Microservices architecture - Containerization (**Docker, Kubernetes**) - Cloud platforms (**AWS, Google Cloud, Azure**) - **DevSecOps** experience - Distributed systems that are secure, compliant, scalable, maintainable, and observable - Analytics/experimentation to improve speed and effectiveness - Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional leadership **About Mercury** Mercury helps people reduce risk and overcome unexpected events.
