New grad candidates should have no more than 18 months of professional experience (excluding internship experience). - Experience and familiarity with programming (via side projects or classwork). Stripe primarily works in **Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go**—new languages are learnable if fundamentals are strong. - Experience from internships or collaborative multi-person coding projects (university or professional). - Ability to learn unfamiliar systems and build understanding through independent research and working with a mentor or subject matter experts. - Clear written communication skills, including explaining your work to stakeholders, team members, and other Stripes. - Ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate development while applying rigorous critical thinking and professional judgment to review, refine, and validate outputs. **Preferred qualifications** - Specialized knowledge in areas such as frontend, backend, infrastructure, or other technologies—balanced with general skills. - Experience with code review practices and safely updating production systems. - Familiarity with navigating and managing work in large code bases. - Experience leading small projects independently and contributing to larger projects with peers. - High agency in navigating complex technical obstacles independently—knowing when to unblock yourself and when to ask for help.
