Founded in 2016, the company builds technology platforms and processes to accelerate drug development and clinical trials, partnering with pharma companies, research organizations, and biotechs. **About the Position** Lead the data engineering team responsible for Formation Bio's data platform. You'll be accountable for pipelines, warehouse, and data products—ensuring fast, high-quality delivery while developing your team. This is an AI-native engineering organization where you and your team will leverage modern AI tools and agentic coding systems as core parts of building pipelines, modeling data, and improving workflows. You'll evolve an established data platform for the company's next growth stage, clarifying ownership, strengthening reliability and governance, and increasing the speed at which trusted data supports clinical operations and decision-making. **Key Responsibilities** • Hire, coach, and develop a team of data engineers • Set technical direction and roadmap for data engineering • Partner with Data Science, Analytics, Clinical Operations, and Business Development on pipeline and data model design • Oversee data platform architecture (ingestion, orchestration, transformation, Snowflake warehouse) • Establish strong data quality, observability, lineage, and documentation practices • Own data governance for regulated and sensitive data • Drive knowledge sharing and training across the organization • Manage team budgeting, resourcing, and incident support rotation **About You** • 7+ years experience in data engineering and people management (3+ years managing data engineers) • Track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers • Skilled at directing teams using AI tools (LLMs, agentic coding) as core daily practice • Strong knowledge of modern data stack (Snowflake, Dagster/Airflow, dbt) • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills • Experience with data governance, access control, and regulated/sensitive data • Working knowledge of Python, SQL, Docker, GitHub, Terraform/OpenTofu • Experience with data quality frameworks and observability tooling • Life sciences industry experience is a plus **Compensation & Location** $213,500 - $267,000 + equity, comprehensive benefits, and perks Hybrid role (3 days/week in office) in NYC, Boston, Research Triangle (NC), or San Francisco Bay Area. Relocation required if not in these locations.
