## Sr. Director, Data Science & Data Engineering — Search ### About the Role Lead Data Science and Data Engineering within **Search and Discovery**. You’ll be responsible for understanding how customers interact with Search and Recommendations on Coupang and for driving improvements to the Search and Discovery experience. This role partners closely with Search and Coupang leadership and requires the ability to navigate the nuanced complexities of **LLMs, ranking models, and statistics**, then translate insights into strategic recommendations for the **C-suite**. ### What You Will Do - Lead a **global 20-person** organization of Data Scientists and Data Engineers, including directors - Provide guidance to optimize **LLMs, ranking models, and personalization systems** to improve customer outcomes - Lead the **experimentation function**, clarifying when launches help vs. harm customers using deep metrics synthesis - Partner with leaders across organizations to ensure Search maximizes value for customers across the business ### What We’re Looking For #### Required Qualifications - **12+ years** of experience in data science/analytics - **5+ years** of experience in people management - Deep expertise in **experimentation and statistics** - Ability to communicate data concepts clearly and succinctly to cross-functional teams, up to the **C-suite** - Understanding of **ML concepts** and how different model configurations affect outcomes #### Preferred Qualifications - Experience in **e-commerce** or marketplace environments - Experience leading **global or multi-region** teams - Experience building **0→1** products or new product initiatives
