**Software Engineering Manager - Payments** **About Gusto** Gusto is on a mission to grow the small business economy by handling payroll, health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR so owners can focus on their business. Supporting 500,000+ small businesses nationwide with offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York. **About the Team** The Money Movement team is a core Payments Engineering group responsible for reliably moving money at scale. The team owns payment rails (ACH, wires, real-time payments, checks, international and stablecoin), integrations with partner banks, payment APIs, bank data ingestion, and routing logic. Currently extracting money movement into a standalone Payments Service with a rails-factory architecture. **What You'll Do** • Develop and empower an engineering team to build the long-term vision for Gusto's payments infrastructure • Lead technical guidance, hiring, onboarding, and execution of next-generation payment rails • Own reliable, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective end-to-end money movement with on-call responsibility and SLO ownership • Drive modularization of payments into a standalone service with clean API contracts • Foster innovation and collaboration while maintaining strong cross-functional relationships • Contribute hands-on technical work including code review and coding as needed **What We're Looking For** • 8+ years of hands-on programming experience • 3+ years of engineering management experience • Experience managing a Payments platform team • Ability to guide strategically and contribute hands-on technical work • Experience growing and managing talent with varied experience levels • Comfortable navigating complex, ambiguous problems • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field • Familiarity with AI tools and their application to engineering workflows **Compensation & Location** Denver & most remote: $183,000-$200,000/yr | San Francisco, Seattle, New York: $222,000-$245,000/yr Hybrid: 2-3 days/week in office (Denver, SF, NYC, or Scottsdale) Gusto is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
