**Technical Director, AI Decision Systems** **About DEFCON AI** DEFCON AI is an insights company leveraging artificial intelligence, mathematical optimization, data analytics, and software engineering for resilient optimization of complex systems. We help customers anticipate, assess, and mitigate the impacts of disruptions. **About the Role** We're seeking a Technical Director to lead a cross-functional team delivering an AI-enabled decision-support capability for the federal government. This is a zero-to-one leadership role spanning product, design, engineering, data, AI, analytics, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and quality. You'll translate mission needs and product direction into coherent execution plans, establish technical priorities, resolve cross-team dependencies, and ensure workstreams converge into secure, explainable, operational capabilities. We're looking for an entrepreneurial technical practitioner ready to broaden their scope—you may come from engineering, data, AI, product, design, or another technical discipline. **Key Responsibilities** • Lead cross-functional delivery spanning multiple technical disciplines • Own technical strategy, architecture, and execution from discovery through deployment • Translate mission needs into clear technical plans and engineering decisions • Build and mentor high-performing technical teams • Make architecture and delivery decisions balancing speed, security, quality, and maintainability • Identify and resolve technical risks before they impact delivery • Remain hands-on enough to challenge assumptions and solve hard problems **Required Qualifications** • Significant accomplishment in software engineering, AI/ML, data systems, analytics, DevSecOps, or comparable technical discipline • Experience leading complex technical efforts across multiple teams • Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguity into working systems • Strong systems thinking and communication skills • Cloud-native software delivery experience • **US Citizenship required** • **US Secret clearance in scope** • Willingness to travel up to 25% **Preferred Qualifications** • Active Top Secret clearance • Zero-to-one product or platform leadership experience • Defense, intelligence, or federal sector experience • AWS GovCloud, DevSecOps, CI/CD expertise • RMF, ATO, or security accreditation experience • AI/ML, LLM, or data-intensive systems experience • Human-in-the-loop decision-support and explainable AI experience **What We Offer** • Fully remote, results-based environment with occasional travel to HQ and customer sites • Competitive salary ($220,000–$260,000), bonus, and equity • 100% employer-paid comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision) • Unlimited PTO • 14 weeks fully-paid parental leave • Career advancement opportunities **Work Environment** Remote-first with occasional travel (up to 25%) as required.
