**Staff Software Engineer, TwoTwenty** **About the Role:** Lead the technical direction of backend systems powering Pinterest's AI-driven product experiences including Pinterest Assistant, visual editing, content creation tools, and future LLM-based products. This is a hands-on leadership role balancing deep technical execution, system-level architecture, and cross-team technical leadership. **Key Responsibilities:** • Define backend and platform architecture for AI-driven experiences (visual-chat, AI image generation, agentic/LLM products) • Architect end-to-end systems spanning API layers, orchestration, logging, evaluation, storage and safety controls • Lead resolution of complex technical challenges (LLM inference scaling, latency vs. quality tradeoffs, backend standardization) • Design and implement production backend systems including APIs, orchestration, data models, caching and LLM infrastructure integration • Create shared tooling and evaluation frameworks for LLM experiences • Guide design of complex, ambiguous projects spanning multiple teams • Improve operational excellence through monitoring, alerting, incident response and mentorship **Required Qualifications:** • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience • 6+ years backend software engineering with track record of shipping impactful projects • Technical leadership experience on large, cross-functional initiatives • Strong Python development skills • Experience with distributed systems design and operation at scale • Production experience building LLM-powered or ML-backed products • Demonstrated ability to use AI effectively while validating accuracy • High integrity and ownership mindset **Work Arrangement:** • Remote with in-office collaboration 1-2 times/quarter • Not eligible for relocation assistance **Compensation (US-based applicants):** $177,185 — $364,795 USD + equity eligibility Pinterest is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an equitable, inclusive workplace.
