**Senior Software Engineer - Machine Learning Platform** **About the Role** Join Upstart's Machine Learning and Simulations Platform (MLSP) team to build core infrastructure powering ML model training, feature engineering, inference, and marketplace simulation. You'll own the full production path—from data and features to model serving, deployment tooling, and simulation systems. **Key Responsibilities** • Build, maintain, and optimize Upstart's next-generation ML and simulation platform • Develop high-quality software enabling ML models to support evolving business needs • Create self-service tooling for ML teams to register features and deploy models independently • Deliver data and feature infrastructure including definition, storage, serving, and offline-to-online parity • Design simulation systems that accurately reflect production environments • Collaborate with ML, Engineering, Product, and Data Engineering teams • Mentor engineers on distributed systems, MLOps, and scalable architecture **Minimum Qualifications** • 6+ years of software engineering experience • Backend software services and APIs development • Distributed systems or large-scale data processing (Spark, Databricks, Ray, or equivalent) • ML platform or ML production path experience (training pipelines, model serving, feature pipelines) • Proficiency with Python, Kotlin, Databricks, and/or AWS • Growth mindset and ability to learn new technologies • Strong communication skills translating complex requirements for technical and non-technical partners **Preferred Qualifications** • Metaflow, MLflow, gRPC, Spark/PySpark, dbt, Ray, or GPU experience • Simulation, experimentation, or backtesting systems knowledge • Self-serve or configuration-driven tooling for internal users • Quantitative reasoning skills at the engineering-ML intersection • Strong ownership and accountability • Excellent written and verbal communication **Location & Travel** Remote (East/West coast time zones). Digital-first role with quarterly in-person onsites (2-4 days). **Compensation** $166,900 – $230,000 USD base salary (varies by location) + bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits including 401(k) match, health coverage, paid leave, and wellness allowance.
