**Team Lead - Trading** **About Alpaca:** Alpaca is a US-headquartered, global leader in agent-first brokerage infrastructure for stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, 24/5 trading, and more. We're a licensed financial services company serving hundreds of institutions across 40 countries with institutional-grade APIs, totalling over 10 million brokerage accounts. **Your Role:** Lead the team building Alpaca's algo trading platform. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll design and architect our platform while still writing code and making critical technical decisions. You'll own the team's roadmap, delivery, and engineer development while staying close to the codebase, design reviews, and production issues. **What You'll Own:** • Technical direction and architecture for the team's services • Roadmap and delivery of complex engineering work • Day-to-day execution: sprint planning, unblocking engineers, stakeholder visibility • Code and design quality standards • Production ownership: reliability, latency, correctness targets • Hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, feedback, and career growth • Cross-team collaboration with product, operations, compliance, and other engineering teams **Requirements:** • Senior/Staff-level software engineer with team leadership experience • Proven ability to grow and mentor engineers • Track record delivering complex systems on schedule • Proficiency in C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, or Python • Expertise in low latency, high throughput optimization • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, databases, and concurrency control • Experience with Order Management Systems (OMS) and Risk Management Systems (RMS) • Previous software engineering experience with trading or exchange systems • Excellent written and verbal communication skills **Nice to Have:** • Experience building engineering teams from the ground up • Production trading/brokerage system ownership • Algo trading experience • FIX protocol knowledge • Financial market knowledge • GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes experience • Remote-first team experience **Benefits:** Competitive salary & stock options, health benefits, $500 home-office setup, $150/month stipend
