We unite life science innovation, company creation, and capital investment under one roof—recognized twice on FORTUNE's "Change the World" list and four times on Fast Company's World's Most Innovative Companies. **Position Summary** Flagship is building a dedicated Legal Operations & Technology function and hiring a Legal Technology and AI Specialist to lead hands-on build-out of AI-powered tools and workflows across the legal department. Reporting to the Director of Legal Operations & Technology, this role combines technical AI engineering skills with legal domain knowledge to design, implement, and maintain AI solutions that accelerate legal service delivery. **Key Responsibilities** **AI Development & Implementation** • Build, configure, and deploy AI-powered tools for contract review, legal research, document drafting, compliance monitoring, and knowledge management • Develop and maintain prompt libraries and prompt engineering frameworks for generative AI systems • Design integrations between AI tools and the Legal Operations & Technology stack (CLM, document management, matter management, e-billing) • Prototype and iterate on AI-assisted workflows from proof-of-concept to production • Monitor emerging AI capabilities and evaluate applicability to legal operations **AI Governance & Quality Control** • Support development of internal AI usage policies and acceptable-use standards • Build quality control procedures for AI-generated legal work product with validation protocols and review standards • Conduct technical risk assessments on new AI tools (data security, confidentiality, bias, hallucination risk) • Partner with IT, information security, and data privacy teams on compliance **Process, Training & Adoption** • Serve as go-to AI resource for the legal team; design and deliver training on effective AI tool use • Document and standardize AI-assisted workflows with playbooks and best-practice guides • Track adoption metrics, define KPIs, and measure ROI of AI initiatives **Vendor & Tool Evaluation** • Support vendor evaluations, product demonstrations, and pilot programs for legal AI platforms • Provide technical assessment of vendor AI capabilities and data handling practices • Recommend tools based on technical merit, integration feasibility, and organizational needs **Cross-Functional Collaboration** • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify legal AI opportunities • Contribute to enterprise-wide AI governance initiatives • Translate legal workflow needs into technical requirements **Required Qualifications** • Bachelor's degree in computer science, AI/ML, data science, engineering, or related technical field • Demonstrated experience building AI/ML solutions (LLMs, NLP, or related technologies) • Practical understanding of prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, and AI system evaluation • Exposure to legal operations, legal workflows, or legal industry • Familiarity with legal technology landscape (CLM, AI-assisted research, document automation, e-discovery) • Strong communication skills translating technical AI concepts for legal and business audiences • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, build-from-scratch environment
