**Senior Frontend Engineer, Media** **About the Role** Reddit is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build the next version of the media web experience. You'll define technical components for delivering video and audio content, focusing on the web media player and its APIs while drawing from industry patterns used by top streaming platforms. **Key Responsibilities** • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering to execute strategy and build features users love • Contribute to full development cycle: technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch • Design and implement end-to-end fullstack solutions with React/TypeScript frontends and Go/Python backends • Balance speed with quality—move fast without introducing critical bugs • Review code and design docs; provide feedback on product specs • Collaborate with client and platform engineers to improve media performance globally • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to developer workflow standards **Required Qualifications** • BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience • 5+ years professional software development in Go, Python, Ruby, Java, C++, or similar • Strong proficiency in modern web technologies: JavaScript, React, Next.js, TypeScript • Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, Thrift; ability to design maintainable APIs • Strong organizational and communication skills; effective in remote environments **What Sets You Apart** • Deep product thinking and ability to bridge technical metrics with user-facing features • Familiarity with HLS, MPEG-DASH, MP4, and video compression standards (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) • Commitment to staying current with video compression advancements • Experience with background data fetching **Compensation & Benefits** • Base Salary: $190,000–$267,000 USD • Equity (RSUs) and potential commission • Comprehensive healthcare, 401(k) with match, flexible PTO, parental leave, mental health support, and more **Note:** Interviews may be recorded and transcribed by AI; you can opt out.
